A small editorial team in Lagos, working at the pace the story actually needs.
Montera began as a shared frustration among three reporters who kept noticing the same thing: the stories that mattered most were rarely the ones that moved fastest. So they built a place where reporting could take the time it needed, and readers who wanted that pace could find it.
We are funded almost entirely by our readers. That arrangement is deliberate — it keeps our incentives pointed toward accuracy and depth rather than clicks, and it means the people who benefit from careful reporting are also the ones sustaining it.
We are still a small newsroom. We would rather stay that size and do the work properly than grow past what our editorial standards can support.
